Have you ever felt uneasy when coming away from a horse expo?
Can you hear your horse asking you, what was in it for me?
At BestHorsePractices, we got to thinking:
Why not give folks a conference of substance, with meat on its bones, with offerings that have direct, positive impact on our horse-human partnerships?
With a talented steering committee and many months of planning, we now have an answer:
Introducing the BestHorsePractices Summit, a collaborative venture, bringing together the best of equine research and sound horsemanship. The BestHorsePractices Summit, Inc., is a Colorado non-profit corporation with 501 (c)(3) status. Donations are tax deductible.
On October 8-10, 2017, it will offer academic and arena presentations in Durango, Colorado. Confirmed presenters include horsemen Martin Black, Warwick Schiller, Gerd Heuschmann and Jim Thomas, academics Dr. Robert Bowker, Dr. Sheryl King and Dr. Steve Peters, who will dissect a horse brain.
Wendy Williams, author of the best-selling The Horse: The Epic History of Our Noble Companion, will give the keynote address.
Redmond Equine, Lucerne Farms, and Darn Tough socks have jump aboard as early charter session sponsors.
The BestHorsePractices Summit goal is “advancing ideas to improve the horse-human connection.” It will come at the task with a big lens and ask big questions. We hope attendees – recreational riders, working cowboys, horse professionals,
students, and barn managers – will leave with new insights and greater skills for work with their horses.
The BHP Summit will:
— bring together horse experts, educators, and researchers for presentations on best practices related to nutrition, handling, management, and riding.
— provide an environment where presenters can share expertise and information in a collaborative, non-competitive environment.
— in its trade show, it will feature goods and services which pass a standard of best practices.
Over many months, a steering committee honed its mission statement and worked to define how the conference can fill the gap of information and education in our greater equine community. We agreed it was high time for a sensible gathering on best horse practices and research. We agreed that the conference proceedings would be documented through high quality audio-video recordings, so that attendees could reference them afterwards for free and so that non-attendees could access what they missed (through a paid subscription).
The BestHorsePractices Summit puts the horse first, philosophically and practically. Does any other event do that? We don’t think so.
Save the date! October 8-10, Durango, CO. Hope to see you there.
