Mission Statement:
The BestHorsePractices Summit, Inc., a Colorado 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation, fills the need for a common sense, research-supported conference to improve horse-human connections. The Summit strengthens links between equine research and horsemanship circles by highlighting the practical and academic strategies that make horses’ lives better.
What:
A conference on best horse practices and equine research, bringing together educators, researchers, horse owners, as well as working, professional, and recreational riders for presentations on best practices related to care, handling, management, training, and riding.
2.5 day format. A welcome get-together and check-in on first evening, followed by two academic presenters in the AM, two horsemanship presenters in PM and repeating that pattern on the second day.

Durango, Colorado.
Beautiful, southwestern Colorado offers myriad opportunities for trail riding (guided or independent), attending/visiting horse-related events, shops, and ranches, enjoying the annual Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering (which will be on October 5-8, 2017), nearby national parks, and wild horse and burro populations.
When:
October 8-10, 2017.
Who:
Led by a steering committee of individuals experienced with organization, planning, development, public speaking, and best horse practices.
In the first year, we aim to attract about 250 attendees.
Volunteers working at least 10 hours before or during the event may attend for free. Those working at least five hours can attend for $150.
How:
The BHP Summit will be supported by sponsors, donations, and attendee fees. Funds raised will go to presenters, facility rental fees, catering, marketing, advertising, web site development and maintenance, and the perpetuation of the BHP Summit, Inc.
