What We Know

Imagine you’re a horse.
You’re hungry. But the only food source is a fast-rolling round bale. The only water comes from a running hose pooling in dirt.
That’s what it feels like sometimes when you’re trying to get reliable, enlightened information on the Internet.

The good stuff is gone in a flash; you wonder if it was ever there. And so much just skims the surface, failing to quench your thirst.

It doesn’t have to be that way.

At NickerNews and BestHorsePractices, you’ll find trusted research, helpful features, and a community of like-minded horse owners interested in doing what’s best for their animals.

While the world clicks away at a frenetic pace, we know haste makes waste. At NickerNews and BestHorsePractices, we see the merit in dwell time.
We believe being with our horses is like being home. It’s a feeling, a comfort that cannot be replaced with any app, TV program, book club, or gym machine. Our dedication to them, meted out in countless hours of toil, provides a backbone to our very being.

We have an unspoken connection with our horses, revealed in small moments that never make it on the calendar or social media post but are quiet micro-celebrations:

  • Burying your face in her mane after a hard day.
  • Moving together in rhythm, better than any dance partner.
  • Hearing the low nicker of expectation as you head out before dawn to toss hay.
  • Being told “You smell like your horse” and still seeing no reason to bathe.

Retail therapy? Forget about it. Our therapy happens on the trail and in the barn. Our precious moments are filled with sweat, smiles, gritted teeth and tears. Our most valued possession? Our horses, our knowledge, and good gear. Not the latest car, shirts, or shoes.
(Ok, but maybe our boots.)

While others cultivate cultures of division and negativity, NickerNews and BestHorsePractices nurture connections. We love sharing ideas, like:
Horse management can be simple and natural.
And horsemanship doesn’t require money so much as time, presence, patience, an open mind, and a learnaholic attitude.

If you’ve been here for a while, thanks!
If you’ve just discovered us, stick around and join up. You might find shelter from the craziness. And you won’t go hungry chasing after a rolling round bale or get sick by drinking dirty water.
