  1. This video was super hard to watch. I completely understand the need to round up the horses due to the loss of grazing and water sources from increasing temperatures and wild fires, but the BLM needs to seriously rethink the way they round up and adopt out these animals. Way too many mustangs are ending up in kill pens and/or are being offered for reassignment because people who have no training experience have gotten in over their heads.

    NMACO is doing this better. Not only are the horses gathered using bait trapping and low stress gathers, they then go to Mustang Camp in New Mexico for initial handling using low stress R+ combined with R- training methods. The horses that come out of Mustang Camp, while not necessarily “trained” are very “tame” and ready for training.

    Whit Hibbard, whom you all did a podcast with, was instrumental in setting up the program with NMACO.
